Kansas legislators tackle liquor legislation

LAWRENCE - Lawmakers were busy at the statehouse on Wednesday, discussing a long list of legislation including several bills pertaining to liquor laws.

Kansas Licensed Beverage Association's Phil Bradley is feeling optimistic. His group has had a hand in getting six different bills written and out of committee pertaining to liquor laws. He's hopeful they'll all pass.

Although senators didn't vote the bills into law on Wednesday, they did take a step forward. One of the measures would allow people to try liquor, wine and beer before they buy it. Right now, alcohol tastings are legal as long as they aren't inside or next door to a liquor store. Samplings would be limited to half an ounce of liquor, one ounce of wine, and two ounces of beer. Bradley says if the bill passes, it's a win-win situation for consumers and liquor store owners.

A vote is expected on Thursday.
