You might be used to hearing gospel music fill churches on a Sunday evening, but this performance has a different purpose. It's an effort to raise awareness for Habitat for Humanity, an organization that's been going strong for 21 years and is responsible for the construction of close to 80 homes here in Lawrence.
Seven local churches decided to get together Sunday night at Lawrence's First Baptist Church to support Habitat. They say their mission of serving God goes hand-in-hand with the purpose of Habitat for Humanity--helping others.
The 2012 Habitat for Humanity Music Fest featured approximately 100 singers, offering a variety of music.
The organization says churches provide tremendous support in terms of fundraising and even construction with the Habitat homes.
Officials say Habitat for Humanity is more important now than ever with the rising number of foreclosures and plenty of Lawrence area families unable to make ends meet.
The concert was free to the public. Donations were collected for Habitat for Humanity.
