Gas line break prompts evacuation in downtown Lawrence

LAWRENCE - A gas line break prompted several downtown businesses to evacuate Wednesday morning.

Police say the break happened just after 10:00 a.m. in the alley behind Maceli's, 1031 New Hampshire, when a Coke truck clipped a meter. Crews evacuated buildings on Massachusetts and New Hampshire streets between 10th and 11th.That included businesses like Einstein Bros Bagel and Maceli's.

Police also temporarily blocked the road at 11th and Massachusetts.
