January Teacher of the Month: Jackie Stafford
LAWRENCE - Jackie Stafford has received awards for her work before, but she says hearing her name announced as the winner of the Sunflower Bank Teacher of the Month award mean even more. "I was surprised and had no idea," says Stafford. "The fact that it came from a student meant a lot. I've been nominated for awards by my peers, but to have it come from a student was special."
But arriving at this point in her career seemed like a long shot nearly two decades ago. After graduating from collage and entering the work force, Stafford says she wasn't happy with her carer. Soon, she volunteered at an adult education program where she finally found her calling and went back to school to become a teacher. Since then, she's never looked back.
